From the artist who brought you Vol. 1 and 2, Alhaji Waziri Oshomah is back again with Vol. 3.

Waziri made Vol. 3 (of his 5-part Volume Series) at the peak of his career when his music took on a more spiritually potent—and funkier—character. This was just before he completed the hajj, when he was stepping into the important spiritual role that he would come to play in his community.

For those of you just meeting Waziri, here’s what to know: He hails from a part of Edo State in southern Nigeria called Afemailand, known as a harmonious region where Muslims and Christians live—and dance—together. There, as a devout Muslim, Waziri’s music fuses Etsako/Afemai folk styles with pan-Nigerian highlife and pop to create a sublime vehicle for his Islamic philosophy that gets everyone—Muslims, Christians, whoever—on the dancefloor.

For those of you who are interested in going deep on the wonderful Waziri, Vol. 3 is also now available alongside the other four volumes of the series, for the first time ever, as part of a complete set (in a box): Vol 1 - 5 (1978 - 1985), which you can find here.
