A couple of things. We kind of see Luaka Bop as more of an art project than a record label.
We’re putting out records that we need and hope you feel you need. (Please buy more Alhaji Waziri Oshomah records by the way, you need this and don’t know it yet.)
Speaking of Alhaji Waziri, we thought we’d make some bags to go along with those releases. So, Eliza had a friend who was going to Nigeria, using African fabric, make some bags for us there. Eric had previously made some silk screen screens and we thought we’d screen our logo on the bags. This of course took many more months then expected. However, they came out so well we don’t want to sell them. Except they’d be just sitting in a box in our office then and that makes no sense, even for an art project.
These bags were made in Lagos by Wunmi Olaiya, and screenprinted by us in New York.
